Being away from home is part and parcel of being in the Army. However being away can also put a strain on you and those you are close to - your family and friends. Planning ahead can make this easier. With your partner, it's about taking time to think about what could make their life easier while you are away: - Organising your finances - make sure the bills can be paid without hassles
- Agreeing on some extra money for the household / for your partner - then she/he can decide how to use it
- Arranging some emergency back-ups to help your partner should the need arise.
With your children, it's about:- Leaving some personal touches for them
- Planning how you will keep in touch
- Developing a way to stay involved in things that are important to them such as sport, school or their projects.
For your family and friends:- Spend some time with them before you go
- Do some things that are special for YOU.
