Back at home

It will take some time to get back into the routines of daily life at home.

You will find your own ways to make this happen, but here are some suggestions.

For Soldiers:

  • Get involved in something new – with some friends, or on your own
  • Take on some projects around the house.

With your partner / spouse:

  • Spend some quality time together.
  • If you have kids, give your partner some time off from caring for them. It’s good for them to have a break even if it’s just to sit at home alone and watch a DVD or take a trip to the hairdresser.
  • Ask your partner / spouse what she / he would like to do – take some time to listen – make a fuss of them. It’s been hard work for them too.

With your kids:

  • Spend some time with the kids, even just for a short time to start with. Go to the park, ride your bike, take them to soccer / swimming / dancing class and stay to watch them.
  • Have the kids help you with jobs around the house
  • Remember your kids may have changed while you were away - their routines will be different and their friends may be different.
